Subject:    comment on my exhibition

Hi Judith, this is Abraham Dunovits.  I stumbled upon this site by coincidence and lo and behold I fine yet another review of my exhibition.  Great!

Some comments about my exhibition:
1) The 40 self portraits came about because of my lack of access to models.  They were also a study of my own face.  It was the first time that I used myself as a model and pastels as a medium.  The whole portrait series was meant to be grotesque and funny but most people thought (and may still think) that I am an egomaniac and that I am quite disturbed.  (Which is not true, up to a certain extent.)  They were also a comment on the obsessive nature of artists. (Look at the last Tony Clarke 'tree paintings' exhibition in Melbourne mid last year.)
2) The MDF sculptures were also meant to be taken lightly (Graham got the reference to Picasso but there was also Braque, Dali, Matisse's names as puns.)  The camel with wings was a straight blown up copy of a toy that I bought for my daughter.  The wings obviously belonged to a bird.

Thanks for the review.   Artplace reviewed by Graham Hay
