Subject: Review of exhibition Fusion

Dear Judith

Thank you for your wonderful review. Words of expression don't come easy for me (that's why I paint) but your carefully chosen words express exactly  the message I am trying to get across in my paintings.

This collection of works is special to me as it relates to an important chapter of Western Australia history.  It tells of our spiritual connection to country and of the impact the practice of Christianity (a by-product of European settlement) had on our own expression of spirituality.

Yes, to fully understand my works they need to be read like a book.  Symbols from both European and Indigenous traditions have been widely used, bringing them together to express the fusion of two very different yet very similar (in terms of spirituality) cultures.

I am glad you enjoyed the exhibition and hopefully others felt the same as they viewed my paintings.

The exhibition was a great success and has been made possible with the award of the Arts Council Fellowship.

Yours truly
Norma MacDonald
